There is no supported universal research order for Build a PC Empire in the public sources. The correct next technology depends on the visible tree, current year, available points, occupied lab slots, product plan, office, staff, and goals. A reliable order begins with the company constraint.
Choose a target before spending
Write one sentence: “I need this research so the company can ___.” A useful answer might be unlock a product option, reach a laptop prerequisite, complete a current goal, or remove a business limitation shown by the game. If you cannot name the next action, keep the points until the need is clearer.
Open the current tree and trace the target backward. Record every displayed prerequisite and cost. Do not assume that a visually nearby node is required unless the interface connects or labels it.
Use a priority ladder
This ladder is a decision tool, not a hidden ranking. A node can move between levels as the company changes.
Diagnose points, slots, and locks
If the node is eligible and a slot is free but the company lacks currency, the bottleneck is research points. If the company has points and eligible nodes but every lab slot is occupied, the bottleneck is capacity or time. If the node cannot be selected because of a requirement, the bottleneck is a prerequisite, year, or company condition.
Use the research points guide for currency records and the technology tree for prerequisites. Do not buy more lab capacity to solve a currency shortage.
Manage several active technologies
The Second lab pass description establishes a normal capacity of three simultaneous technologies and an expanded capacity of five for pass owners. Record the current game if it differs. Running more nodes at once can be useful only when the company also has enough points for the chosen path.
Keep one queue position focused on the primary target when possible. Use additional capacity for prerequisites or clearly defined secondary goals. Avoid filling every slot with cheap options that consume the points reserved for the main path.
Control Auto Research
Auto Research starts a new technology when a lab is free and points are available. The official pass description says it selects the cheapest first unless you set a research goal. This makes the goal field important: it can preserve a path that the cheapest-first rule would otherwise ignore.
Before enabling it, note the target and reserved points. Check the queue after a completion. Switch automation off while saving for an expensive prerequisite or while documenting the tree. Automated spending can make a clean before/after ledger impossible.
Test the unlock
Research is not complete knowledge until you use the result. If the node unlocks a component, create a controlled product comparison. If it unlocks capacity or a company tool, record the workflow before and after. If it supports a goal, confirm the goal response rather than assuming the prerequisite automatically completes it.
Use the PC design guide and benchmark guide to keep the product test readable. Record the node name, date, year, cost, and displayed unlock text with the result.
Avoid unsupported “best order” claims
An order can vary with starting choices, update balance, goals, passes, and company strategy. A video may show a successful route without proving it is fastest or best for another player. Require the full tree state and current build before copying an exact sequence.
When publishing an observed route, describe its goal and constraints: no passes or specified passes, company year, target product, available points, lab capacity, and check date. A scoped route is useful; an unexplained numbered list is brittle.
Research review checklist
- The target has a named company use.
- Direct prerequisites are recorded from the current interface.
- Total displayed point cost is affordable without accidental automation spending.
- A lab slot will be available.
- Current year and update date are recorded.
- The post-research test is planned.
- Unknown values remain blank rather than inferred.
Following this checklist will not reveal an undocumented formula, but it will keep points attached to decisions that move the company forward.
